Team-Signed Baseballs

  5 Lots

Lot 386.  Baseball Autographed by Connie Mack, Joe Louis, 1942 Athletics and Others. A coat of shellac covers the surface of this unofficial, sepia-toned ball that shows a nice Mack signature with one other on the sweet spot. Joe Louis displays decently on a panel with many other signers, some difficult to make out; some may not be baseball players. Earl Brucker, Ken Richardson Peter Suder, Earl Mack, Mike Kreevich and Felix Mackiewicz, all on the 1942 Athletics team, are on one panel. These signatures and Mack’s grade ex-m 6 to nm 7. Other signatures of varying strengths are by Al Rubeling, Jim Catigilia, Dee Miles, Dave Keefe and Buddy Blair. Interesting ball with a very displayable example of Connie Mack’s signature, along with Louis and various members of the 1942 Athletics team. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $148

Lot 387.  1947 Philadelphia Athletics Team Ball SS Signed by Simmons and Mack. Hall of Fame members Al Simmons and Connie Mack share the sweet spot of this nm cream-colored OAL Harridge ball, which has strong pre-printed areas and shows no sign of discoloration. In addition to Simmons and Mack, 21 black ink signatures include those of Eddie Joost, Hank Majeski, Sam Chapman, Elmer Valo, Russ Christopher and Phil Marchildon on the north panel, Bill Dietrich and Barney McCosky on the west, Earle Brucker, George Binks, Ferris Fain, Bill McCahan and Fermin Guerra on the east and Dave Keefe, Pete Suder, Carl Scheib, Jesse Flores, Buddy Rosar, and Dick Fowler on the south. The autographs are easily discernable and range from ex 5 to nm 7. A uniformly applied and barely visible Krylon veil preserves this beautiful these autographs and your investment! Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $396

Lot 388.  Ball Signed by Nick Allen and 1926 St. Paul Saints Players, Including Many Yankees. Seventeen autographs are on a vintage red and blue-stitched ball that evidently was game-used. The 1926 Saints were an entry in the American Association. The autograph of Allen, the manager, remains clean and strong on the east panel. He played on the 1919 Reds and died in 1939. Other keys include 1927 Yankees’ Julian Wera and George Pipgras. In addition, Pee Wee Wanninger, the only man to pinch hit for Lou Gehrig, is also present along with Norm McMillan, Fred Hoffman, Henry Johnson, Henry (Nick) Cullop, Walter Betts, Hal Anderson, Chas. Stuvengen, Thos. F. McCarthy (minor leaguer), Edw. Meade, “Deeby” Foss, Ray Kolp, Bruno Haas (d.1952) and one other. A very unusual ball should be of great interest to advanced 1920s Yankee collectors and also collectors of minor league issues from this era. Game ball with signatures averaging ex-m 6. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $180
