Lot 305. 1930 Pie-Eyed Mickey Mouse Baseball Batter Bisque. One of the most desirable of the Disney bisques, this Mickey Mouse batter stands 3 ½” tall. His name is impressed into the front of his shorts and “Walt E. Disney” is on the back. “Made in Japan” is impressed into the back of his jersey. Extremely nice example with slight wear on Mickey’s cap and the edge of his right ear.

Lot 306. 1930 Pie-Eyed Mickey Mouse Bisque Pitcher with Baseball and Glove. This bisque stands approximately 3.25” tall and shows Mickey with a glove at his left hip and a gold painted baseball in his right hand. Across his chest is debossed “Mickey Mouse,” and across his back and his shorts, “Made in Japan, Walt E. Disney.” About 80% of the paint is present, and Mickey has some minor dirt, apparently from game action, on his face and the seat of his pants.

Lot 493. Marilyn Monroe on the Cover of the July 1959 “Gun” Magazine. The toughest of the magazine covers decorated by Monroe. She is on the cover with Arvo Ojala, a Finn who gave up apple farming in Washington State to teach Hollywood actors how to handle guns for movie scenes. When the photo was taken, Monroe was working on the Otto Preminger film “River of No Return” with Robert Mitchum. Inside the magazine, Ojala is profiled in an article that pictures Frank Sinatra. The magazine, which does not have a label, is vg-ex with a 1” split at the top and bottom of the spine.

Lot 494. Marilyn Monroe as a Georgia Tech Cheerleader on the Sept. 9, 1952 “Look” Cover. This is one of the more highly sought Monroe covers. The actress shares the cover with Pablo Picasso and Leslie Caron. Her appearance coincides with Grantland Rice’s college football forecast. Rice correctly selected the Yellow Jackets as one of the top teams in the country, and the magazine contains a three-page article on the team. Coached by legendary Bobby Dodd, the team completed the season with a perfect 11-0 record, but still wound up second to 9-0 Michigan State in the AP voting for the mythical national championship. The issue of “Look” has a label on the cover and is ex.

Lot 495. 1942 Check Signed by Comedian George Burns and Clarabelle the Cow!?!!! Bold gem mint 10 signature by the beloved comedian on the front of a check from “George N. Burns and Grace Allen Burns” dated Nov. 18, 1942. The check is made out to and signed on the back by Elvira Allman, who played “Tootsie Sagwell,” a man-hungry spinster, on Burns’ 1940s radio sitcom. She had played a similar character in a 1938 Bob Hope program. From 1928-42, she provided the voice for Clarabelle the Cow in 28 Disney cartoons; almost 50 years later, she revived the role in “The Prince and the Pauper.” In the 1950s-60s, she appeared on TV programs with Lucille Ball, Jack Benny and Burns. She died in 1992. In a career that spanned most of the 20th century, Burns re-invented himself several times. He succeeded in vaudeville, radio, television and the movies. He performed until shortly before his death at 100 in 1996. Vintage Burns signatures are scarce. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 496. Photo Signed by President and Lady Bird Johnson, Unsigned JFK and LBJ Photos. This collection consists of 23 photos and other items related to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. One 8” x 10” b&w photo is signed by the President and Mrs. Johnson. Kevin Keating authenticated the signatures. Her autograph is nm-m 8 against a dark background. His is ex-m 6 to nm 7, displaying a difficult-to-see trace-over. It appears that ink was not flowing well, and President Johnson went back over at least part of the autograph. The collection also includes an 8” x 10” b&w photo signed by one of the Johnsons’ daughter, Lynda, and dated 1966. She offers a “Birthday Wish” to an unidentified recipient. A Ted Kennedy photo has an autopen signature, and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy’s name is printed at the bottom of a memorial card for JFK. Two appreciation cards have autopen or printed on signatures of LBJ, and a color 8” x 10” portrait has an LBJ autopen autograph. Eleven photos portraying the Johnsons are glossies. Seven photos show the Kennedys; four were clipped from magazines. All of the photos and cards are adhered to photo album pages and have an ex-m appearance.

Lot 497. Signed Photos of President and Pat Nixon and Their Daughter Tricia. The President and his wife both signed the large border of an 8” x 10” photo that has them posed at the White House. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs. These personalized signatures are mint 9, and either could be matted and framed by alone. Mrs. Nixon also signed and personalized an 8” x 10” portrait. Tricia Nixon signed three photos, adding her married name “Cox” to one that shows her with her husband. This collection also contains photos of President Eisenhower, Mamie Eisenhower and Betty Ford. The first two have autopen signatures, and the Ford signature is secretarial. There also is a photo of Julie Nixon and David Eisenhower that apparently has a secretarial signature. All of the photos are adhered to album pages; their appearance is ex-m.

This collection of extraterrestrial explorers includes Guion Bluford, the first African-American in space; Bernard Harris Jr., the first African-American to walk in space; Dan Brandenstein, who commanded the maiden flight of Endeavour; Michael Coats, director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston; Eileen Collins, the first female pilot and first female commander of a Space Shuttle; Mike Foale, who has dual U.S.-England citizenship and is the first Briton in space and the U.S. citizen with the most cumulative time in space; Mark Garneau, the first Canadian in space, and Wendy Lawrence, the first U.S. Naval Academy graduate in space. The other signers are Joseph P. Allen, Jay Apt, John Blaha, Karol “Bo” Bobko, Vance Brand, Jim Buchli, Bob Cenker, Mary Cleave, Frenchman Jean-Francois Clervoy, Dick Covey, J.O. Lot 499. 25 Signed NASA Astronaut Photos – Ride, Slayton, Mattingly, Thagard, Etc. This collection includes many space pioneers. Their autographs are nm-m 8 and better on 8” x 10 color NASA photos. In 1983, Sally Ride became the first American woman and the youngest American to go into space. Deke Slayton, who passed away in 1993, was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts. A heart murmur grounded him during the Mercury program, but he flew as the docking module pilot for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. At the time, at age 51, he was the oldest person to fly in space. Norm Thagard was the first American to go into space aboard a Russian vehicle (making him the first American “cosmonaut”). Others who were first in space include R(odolfo) Neri, the first Mexican; Sultan bin Salman, the first Saudi; and Brewster Shaw, a member of the first international Space Shuttle crew. Ken Mattingly is one of only 24 astronauts to fly to the moon; his autograph is on a shuttle crew photo. Shannon Lucid previously held the record for the longest stay in space by an American and a woman. Photos also are signed by Jay Apt, Dave Leestma, J. Mike Lounge, Barbara R. Lot 500. 1993 “Star Wars: A New Hope” Poster Signed by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. Better known as “The Brothers Hildebrandt,” the Hildebrandt twins became internationally famous after creating the original “Star Wars” poster. Tim passed away in 2006. This colorful 27” x 41” Style A poster is signed by both artists. The poster has some edge and corner “dings” and a couple of small border tears and stains along the bottom well away from the autographs. Kevin Keating authenticated the signatures, which are mint 9.

Lot 501. Photos Signed by Bob Hope, Jackie Cooper, Bette Davis, Jane Withers and Sally Struthers. Except for Cooper’s, the signatures are nm-m 8 or better. The Hope, Davis and Struthers signatures are on 5” x 7” b&w photos. Withers signed a 2.5” x 4.25” b&w photo. The Cooper autograph is strong on an 8” x 10” b&w photo that has heavy creases and two large tears. One of the tears separates the “k,” the dot on the “I” and the top of the “e” from the rest of the signature; nevertheless, the autograph is complete and displays decently. Tape across the tears does not touch the autograph. Otherwise, the collection consists of unsigned photos, 3.25” x 5.5” or larger, of Shirley Temple, Lucille Ball, Marion Marlowe, Jean Stapleton, Carol Burnett, Bing Crosby, Julius La Rosa and Jimmy Stewart. There also are three magazine photos of Princess Grace of Monaco and her family. All but the Stapleton, Burnett and Cooper photos are adhered to album pages.
