CCA's Top 30 - Tommy John, Honus Wagner and Interesting Collectibles

  30 Lots       »

Lot 1.  Tommy John 1978 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Home Jersey and Other Equipment. This Goodman & Sons size 44 World Series-used jersey is adorned with the No. 19 patch that the Dodgers wore to honor Jim Gilliam, their coach who died only two days before the championship competition began. While lacking tags, it shows good use, including some game stains on the front. John’s No. 25 is on the front and back, where his name also appears. His jackets, a hat, shoes, pants and undershirt accompany the jersey. Except for the pants, John wore them in Dodgers’ games between 1972 and 1978. Exact seasons are uncertain. Two jackets are included, one lighter and one heavier. The lighter jacket, which has “25” and “T. John” in marker on a label in the collar, shows significant use. John autographed the front with an nm-m 8 signature. The heavier jacket, size 48 by Goodman & Sons, shows light use, including stains on the left sleeve. John’s name is on the back. John also autographed a Dodgers cap and a pair of shoes. The signature on the bill of the cap is nm-m 8; “T.J.” and “#25” are on the underside in marker. The signatures on the Riddell spikes grade 9-10. This collection also includes John’s blue leather belt, four game-used undershirts with royal-blue sleeves and an unsigned pair of Puma shoes. The Goodman size 40 home pants are not game-worn. John will autograph the jersey, personalize the signature and add up to five notations if requested. It all comes with a Letter of Authenticity from John; the letter will specify that the jersey was worn in the World Series.

According to the Population Report, only one (not Wagner) has ever been graded higher; it received a grade of EX + 5.5. This Butter Krust example is problem-free, featuring centering slightly toward the left and bottom, light touches on three corners, and slightly more wear on one. The colors are strong and bright. It is interesting to note that the Population Report lists 31 examples of the famous T206 Wagner card. This Butter Krust of one baseball’s greatest players stands alone.

Lot 11.  Honus Wagner Vintage Fountain Pen Autograph. Desirable, early gem mint 10 signature of one of the 10-15 best baseball players of all time. This is the finest Wagner autograph we have offered. Kevin Keating authenticated the signature.
Winning Bid $862

Lot 12.  Rare Sepia 1916 Wedding Photograph of Honus Wagner and Bessie Smith. Even Wagner’s granddaughter didn’t have a copy of this photo. An earlier owner made a copy of it for her. This 4” x 6” photo is the only known original from the wedding on Dec. 30, 1916. Wagner was 42, and Smith, 27. He had met her at least eight years earlier. Although rumors of their impending marriage were rampant, they managed to avoid reporters. They were married in a simple, private evening ceremony in Carnegie, Pa. The images could not be clearer or sharper. The photo is nm except for an inoffensive crease away from the Wagners in the lower right corner. The blank back has a couple of stains likely related to the photo-printing process. Definitely rare, and like unique!
Winning Bid $949

Lot 13.  PSA/DNA- Authenticated Autograph of Don Miller – Notre Dame Four Horsemen Right Halfback. Miller’s autograph is the most difficult among the Four Horsemen to obtain.
