Lot 110. 100+ Tommy John Publications – 24 Autographed. These publications relate to John’s career in some way. Among them are World Series, Championship Series, All-Star Game and regular-season programs, yearbooks, media guides and periodicals. One of the more interesting and obscure items is a signed crossword puzzle in the Feb. 18, 1990 issue of “The New York Times Magazine.” “Tommy John” is the answer to 41 Down, “Former Yankee pitcher.” John also autographed his image on the covers of two copies of the Sept. 11, 1983 “Magazine.” He signed the cover of the 1982 Lite Beer calendar distributed “Compliments of Billy Martin.” Other highlights include John’s signature on a folder provided to members of the 1979 American League All-Star team, All-Star Game programs for 1978-80 and World Series programs for 1977 and 1981. Here is a list of the other publications John autographed: 1981 and 1982 Yankees yearbooks; a 1981 Yankees season ticket brochure; a 1981 ALCS program; Dodgers yearbooks for 1972-74, 1976 and 1978; a 1976 Dodgers Photo Album; a 1990 “Tribute to Tommy John” dinner program; a 1974 Dodgers vs. Mets program, and a 1988 vs. Mets spring training program. The final two programs are scored for games that John pitched, and he autographed the scorecard portion. John also signed a photo showing him with two of his sons in the Sept. 1983 issue of “Esquire.” The signatures are mint 9 and gem mint 10 authenticated by Kevin Keating. Yankees (17) - 1980 World Series program; 1982 yearbook; 1981 ALCS program (2); 1988 (2) and 1989 Yankees calendars; Aug. 11, 1988 and Oct. 8, 1992 (3) “Yankees Magazine”; 1981 spring roster; 2004 B.A.T. Dinner program; and three game programs, 1979 vs. Orioles, 1981 spring training vs. Orioles and 1989 Opening Day vs. Texas. (John pitched in these three games; all are scored.)
