Baseball Pennants

  9 Lots

Lot 30.  Very Rare 1939 New York Yankees-Cincinnati Reds World Series Vintage Felt Pennant. Simple beauty characterizes this full-sized pennant, which commemorates the Yankees’ sweep of the Reds. The tip shows very slight wear, and the pennant is free of pin holes. Ex-m. This pennant is an original, not a reproduction.
Winning Bid $357

Lot 277.  Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 N.L. Champions “Beat ‘Em Bucs” Scroll Pennant. This full-sized white-on-black scroll pennant is the less common version – with the “Beat ‘Em Bucs” slogan and a “Murtaugh - Mgr.” banner beneath the Pirates’ mascot. The names of 23 players and coaches appear in the scroll. Schofield, Christopher, Cimoli and Haddix all are spelled incorrectly. The pennant identifies the Pirates as “National League Champions.” With text and graphics on pliable and somewhat thin material, the pennant has a vertical crease through the mascot; otherwise, it is free of pin holes, and the tip is intact. Ex to ex-m.
Winning Bid $68

Lot 278.  1960 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series “Ship” Pennant with 25 Players’ Names. Ex-m white-on-black “National League Champs” full-sized pennant. Danny Murtaugh is the lone Pirate depicted, and he’s making a nervous A.L. player walk the plant. Names of 25 Pirates players appear on the mast of the ship, dubbed the“1960 World Series.” Surprisingly, all of the names are spelled correctly. Clemente and Mazeroski are among the players listed. Ex-m and free of pin holes or stains, it would be nm or better without slight rounding of the tip.
Winning Bid $113

Lot 315.  Very Rare 1940 Cincinnati Reds “World Champs” Full-Sized Vintage Felt Pennant. This pennant, created for vertical display, presents the last names of 16 Reds, including manager McKechnie, players such as Lombardi and Derringer, and the stars of the series, Walters and Ripple. The Reds defeated Detroit in seven games. Ex-m with one pin hole in each of the four tassels and another about 2” above the very slightly rounded tip. Wonderful, and seldom seen original – not a reproduction.
Winning Bid $847

Lot 316.  Somewhat Rare 1950s Milwaukee Braves Full-Sized Pennant. On a blue background, this pennant has a colorful profile portrait of an Indian at the left and “Milwaukee Braves” to the right. The field is lightly faded, and light soiling is present on the stripe and tassels. Ex.
Winning Bid $50

Lot 317.  3 Uncommon Kansas City Athletics 1950s-60s Pennants. The first is rare. Full-sized, it has a gray elephant with a pink blanket on a black field. Ex-m. The second, also full-sized, turns up infrequently. It has a red elephant and type on a gray field. Ex-m. The third pennant is a 12” mini with a gray elephant on a red background, ex-m.
Winning Bid $75

Lot 318.  Rare Philadelphia Phillies 1964 National League Champions Phantom Pennant. The 1964 Phils finished a game behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the race for the N.L. title. This is a solid ex example.
Winning Bid $168

Lot 319.  17 Baseball HoF, Cooperstown and Old Timers Pennants – Vintage HoF Inductees, Etc. 1. 1970s 36” “National Baseball Hall of Fame Members” pennant with images of players ranging from Cobb, Ruth and Gehrig to Clemente. Ex. 2. One of the more interesting pennants is a full-sized Hall of Fame Old Timer’s example with a vintage batter at the left and the names of 36 HoFers and other stars. This pennant may hold the record for misspelled names: Rissuto, Greenburg, Sachel Page, Larson, Trayner, Stangel and Raschie. Vg+ to ex with one set of tassels missing. 3. Full-sized “National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum” pennant, HoF exterior in an oval, red, white and blue. Nm. 4. Cooperstown 1999 full-sized, nm. 5.
