22 Signed Color Photos – Mets, Reds and Phils – McMillan, Vander Meer, Orosco, Luzinski, Etc.

Lot 86. 22 Signed Color Photos – Mets, Reds and Phils – McMillan, Vander Meer, Orosco, Luzinski, Etc. Some relatively difficult autographs give this little collection significant potential break-up value – Lee Mazzilli, Jesse Orosco, Roy McMillan, Joe Nuxhall and Mario Soto, for example. The signatures are generally flawless on 8” x 10” photos, with only the background affecting the grade. They are are nm-m 8 or better, and most are mint 9 or gem mint 10. Here is the complete list - METS (3): Lee Mazzilli, Jim McAndrew and Jesse Orosco. REDS : Roy McMillan (died 1997), Eddie Milner, Joe Nuxhall (d. 2007), Dave Parker, Bob Purkey (d. 2008), Gary Redus, Mario Soto, Johnny Vander Meer (d. 1997) and Woody Woodward. PHILLIES (9): Stan Lopata (d. 2013), Greg Luzinski, Art Mahaffey, Bob Miller, Don Money, Ken Raffensberger (d. 2002), Cookie Rojas, Rick Schu and Curt Simmons. Orosco holds the major league record for career pitching appearances (1,252 games). Nuxhall was the youngest player ever to appear in a major league game. He was more than an month short of age 16 when he pitched 2/3 of an inning for the Reds on June 10, 1944. He also pitched in more games for Cincinnati than any other left-hander. Since his retirement, Soto has made a mark as a pitching coach and front office staff member for the Reds. Vander Meer, of course, pitched consecutive no-hitters in 1938. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. Winning Bid $92.
