Mandela personally hand-signed a special page behind the flyleaf. In addition, the book comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Easton Press documenting the validity of the autograph. Easton specializes in high-quality leather editions, many signed by the author. In 1994, Mandela became the first president of South Africa elected with the full participation of the country’s black majority. He served until 1999. From 1962 until 1990, he was imprisoned for his opposition to the country’s apartheid government. In 1993, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his promotion of reconciliation among South Africa’s races. At his death last December, he was revered in his country and respected worldwide.
