This delightful, offbeat softcover, in an 8 5/8” x 11 5/8” format, covers the careers of these two great heavyweight champions with text and more than 400 cartoon illustrations. Self-taught, Carroll is regarded as one of the top boxing cartoonists of the 20th century. His drawings and accompanying prose appeared in “The Ring” from the 1920s until his passing in 1973. In 1935, he became the only cartoonist for “The Ring.” An African-American himself, he produced a well researched and regarded series on black boxers for the magazine. In this 64-page (plus covers) softcover, Carroll provides more than 200 illustrations of each boxer. This self-published apparent first edition is ex.
