Ralph Kiner Collection – Schedule, Rare Pittsburgh Magazine, Glass and an Ad.
Lot 211. Ralph Kiner Collection – Schedule, Rare Pittsburgh Magazine, Glass and an Ad. The inaugural issue of “The Pittsburgh Spectator,” from Aug. 1952, contains a feature three-page article on the Pirates’ slugger. Written by Pittsburgh play-by-play announcer Bob Prince, the article is titled “Kiner: It Takes a Big Belly.” That sounds like something Prince would come up with. Three photos of Kiner, one with Bobby Del Greco and Tony Bartirome, illustrate the article, along with other photos of Branch Rickey and Prince. A separate page salutes Pirates manager Bill Meyer. The 10” x 13” magazine is vg. Pittsburgh old-timers may also appreciate articles on Rege Cordic, Judge Michael Musmanno and Eleanor Schano as a 21-year-old model, and a Marty Wolfson illustration of Richard K. Mellon. Kiner is on the cover of a 1951 Pirates schedule. The cover of the 4” x 7.5” schedule is ex, while the middle panel has tape and a tear. Kiner is also featured in 9.75” x 14” black & white newspaper ad for Town Talk Bread, ex, and on a 5” tumbler that has his image and facsimile signature in red against a representation of Forbes Field in white. Kiner passed away in February. Current Bid $30.
