Lot 137. Bobby Layne Autograph on an 8” x 9” Color Magazine Photo. Large, bold personalized (to John) gem mint 10 signature on a photo that shows the legendary quarterback at his desk, complete with a box of cigars. The photo has two fold lines from being mailed. Layne led the Detroit Tigers to NFL championships in 1952 and 1953, and the Pittsburgh Steelers to respectability in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His pro coach, Buddy Parker, called him “the greatest leader I’ve ever been associated with.” Layne was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1967. He was just shy of age 60 when he passed away in 1986.
