Lot 103. Allen and Ginter Cards – Two 1887 N28 and Three 1888 N29. The 1887 cards are of marksman A. H. Bogardus and wrestler Edwin Bibby. For both cards, text on the back is completely gone; the front of the Bogardus card grades vg, and Bibby, vg. The 1888 cards are “all around athlete” M. W. Ford, runner W. G. George and club swinger Gus Hill. Ford has a stain on the back and an irregular right border; g-vg. George is f-g with two small spots of paper loss on the back and another small spot on his moustache. The back of the Hill card has been skimmed; the front is g.

Lot 105. 12 1933 R338 Goudey Sport Kings – Dempsey, Didrickson, Sarazen, Morenz, Etc. These cards constitute one-fourth of the set. Ten each have a pin hole at the top: #3 Holman g-vg and 5 Wachter p-f (both basketball), 15 McNamara (bicycling) g-vg, 17 Dempsey p-f, 21 Weissmuller f-g, 27 Turner (aviation) p-f, 29 Bailey (hockey) f-g, 31 Walthour (cycling) p-f, 39 Westrope (jockey) p-f and 45 Didrickson f. Two have a chip at the top that grew from a pin hole: #22 Sarazen p-f and 24 Morenz p-f. The grades indicate the appearance of the card absent the pin hole or chip.

Lot 106. Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner Autographs on an NCB Olympics T-Shirt. Large mint 9 signatures on an nm-m T-shirt with the original tags. One of the world’s most widely recognized gymnasts, Comaneci won three gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics and became the first Olympics gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10. She capturred two more gold medals in 1980. Conner was the men’s world champion on the parallel bars in 1979, and he won the gold medal for the event at the 1984 Olympics. Conner and Comaneci were married in 1996. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 107. Sir Edmund Hillary Signed 8” x 10” Mount Everest Photo. The relatively recent color print shows Hillary and apparently Tenzing Norgay on Mount Everest in 1953. On May 29, he and Norgay, a Sherpa mountaineer, became the first to reach the mountain’s summit. He signed the photo Ed Hillary, and the signature is a gem mint 10. Hillary passed away in January of 2008. His autograph seems to be undervalued. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 108. 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles Large Banner. This 35” x 60” nm red, white, blue and black banner is from the XXIIIrd Olympiad in LA. It is accompanied by an nm ticket stub for a track and field event. Outstanding Olympics display item!

Lot 109. 8 Wire Photos: Basketball, Hockey, Horse Racing and Track & Field. Two from the 1960s, each 6” x 8”, represent track & field. One shows USC hurdlers Earl Vickery and Jim Humphrey, and the other, miler Glenn Cunningham. Both are vg+ to ex from International News Photos. The remaining photos are from 1965 or 1966. Wide World Photos is the source of two basketball photos, a 7” x 9” of Bill Melchioni of Villanova, MVP of the NIT, and 8” x 10” of Princeton vs. Navy at the Charlotte Invitational, vg-ex. Another Wide World 8” x 10” pictures game action involving Ron Ellis of Toronto and Pat Stapleton of Chicago, vg-ex. Three UPI photos, each about 8” x 10”, show Johnny Longden, who retired with the most wins of any jockey. Two capture him after his final ride, which he won. Ex. Decent break-up value here.
