Lot 168. Circa 1890 Goodwin & Co. “Welcome Cigarettes” Large Die-Cut, Trade Card. The die-cut stands 10” tall in a red, white and blue star-studded dress. The front is free of problems except for a crease in the left boot and a couple of very minor edge chips. The blank back has scrapbook residue. The 3” x 4 ¾” trade card, which uses the same artwork, has a f-g front and back damage. About 80% of the type on the back is present. Both items are rare!

Lot 169. 13 1910-30s Comic Tobacco Pins. The artwork for the pins is by such cartoonists as Rudolph Dirks (Katzenjammer Kids), Hal Hoffman, Bud Fisher (Mutt and Jeff) and Tom McNamara (US Boys). All but two pins have Tokio Cigarettes paper backs. Titles of the pins are “On Your Way” (Mutt), “I’ll Buy!” “Cut That Stuff,” “Don’t Butt In,” Where Do You Go from Here?” “Hire a Hall” (2), “Feel My Muscle,” “Now Will You Be Good,” “Nothing to It,” “I Wish You Many Joys,” “You’re Next!” and “Stick Around Kid.” Nine pins are ex to ex-m; four are g-vg to vg.

Lot 170. Early 1900s Trade Cards, Postcards and a Booklet Featuring Niagara Falls. A 5” x 7 ½” trade card features artwork of a rainbow over the falls and promotes Clark’s ONT Spool Cotton. Ex. A 4 ¼” x 6” trade card depicts Rock of Ages and the American Falls while advertising Daniel Crimmins, Clothier. Vg-ex. A Valentine & Sons postcard produced for the Canadian Railway New Co. shows the American Falls glistening in the moonlight. Dated 1909, the card grades vg. Another postcard is from the 1939 Godfrey Phillips (Tobacco) “Our Glorious Empire” series and shows the Canadian Falls. Vg-ex. In 1914, Shredded Wheat Biscuit issued the 52-page The Wonders of Niagara: Scenic and Industrial. Extensively illustrated, it contains information on the Niagara Falls area and shredded wheat. Vg-ex.

Lot 171. 31 Different 1910s B6 National Flags. These flags, about 5 ½” x 8 ¼”, are a mix of Types 1, 2 and 3. Type 1 (plain field): Burmah, Columbia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Persia, Turkey-Egypt and Venezuela. Type 2 (floral field): Belgium, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Liberia, Peru, Roumania, Servia (2 different), So. African Republic, South Australia, Spain and Turkey. Type 3 (country on shield): Congo, Crete, Peru, Samoa and Turkey. Sixteen of the flags are ex or better, and 15 are vg-ex or less.

Lot 172. 33 Different Tobacco Cards from T57 Fable, T62 Fortune and T97 Riddle Series. Thirteen cards are from the 1910-12 T57 Turkish Trophy “Fable Series,” 10 from the first series and three from the second. Vg: 1 card. G-vg: 3. G: 3. F: 3. P:3. Three cards represent the 1910 T62 Turkish Trophy “Fortune Series.” They begin “You are bound to rise” f, “You are not patient” vg-ex and “You are sincerity itself” g-vg. American’s Tobacco’s Perfection brand is the source of 17 1910 “Riddle Series” cards. Some of the humor in this set is a bit obscure, but the artwork is excellent. F overall.

Lot 173. 1914 Player “Victoria Cross” Set of 25 Recognizing Recipients of the Honor. The Victoria Cross is the highest military decoration awarded for valor in the face of the enemy to members of the British armed forces. On the back, these color cards describe 19th century acts of heroism that earned the award, and on the front, artwork depicts the acts. Six cards are ex with the remaining cards evenly split between g-vg to vg-ex

Lot 176. 1938 Godfrey Phillips “Bird Painting” Set of 50 Cards, All PSA-Graded. These cards have two images of each bird on the front, one in color and one black & white. The b&w version was meant to be colored to match the color image. The backs contain information on the birds. The entire set has been graded by PSA. All but three cards re EX 5 or better, and most are EX-MT 6 or better. One card is graded NM-MT 8, 2 NM+ 7.5, 12 NM 7, 2 EX-MT+ 6.5, 20 EX-MT 6, 4 EX+ 5.5, 6 EX 6, 2 VG-EX+ 4.5 and 1 VG-EX 4.
