Roger Maris: A Man for All Seasons Signed by His Son, Roger Maris, Jr.
Lot 123. Roger Maris: A Man for All Seasons Signed by His Son, Roger Maris, Jr. Maury Allen, New York Post sportswriter, wrote this 272-page 1986 biography. An apparent first edition, the book is nm in an nm dust jacket. Maris’ son signed the flyleaf with a large, bold 10 autograph. Above, he wrote, “Stay as sweet as you are.” Amid controversy, hostility and a threatened asterisk, Maris eclipsed Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record with 61 in 1961. Almost half a century later, his feat apparently remains unsurpassed without chemical enhancements. Of course, the record books show that Maris’ record fell in 1998, 37 years after he established it; Ruth’s record stood for 34 years. Maris passed away in 1985 at the age of 51. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $20.
