Lot 109. 8 Wire Photos: Basketball, Hockey, Horse Racing and Track & Field. Two from the 1960s, each 6” x 8”, represent track & field. One shows USC hurdlers Earl Vickery and Jim Humphrey, and the other, miler Glenn Cunningham. Both are vg+ to ex from International News Photos. The remaining photos are from 1965 or 1966. Wide World Photos is the source of two basketball photos, a 7” x 9” of Bill Melchioni of Villanova, MVP of the NIT, and 8” x 10” of Princeton vs. Navy at the Charlotte Invitational, vg-ex. Another Wide World 8” x 10” pictures game action involving Ron Ellis of Toronto and Pat Stapleton of Chicago, vg-ex. Three UPI photos, each about 8” x 10”, show Johnny Longden, who retired with the most wins of any jockey. Two capture him after his final ride, which he won. Ex. Decent break-up value here.

Lot 110. Secretariat Triple Crown Photos Signed by Jockey Ron Turcotte. Nice group of three photos marking the 1973 Triple Crown achievement of Secretariat and Turcotte. They were the first Triple Crown winners in 25 years. One modern 8”x 10” each from the Belmont Stakes, the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, including an excellent head-on shot of Secretariat in the stretch at Belmont. Each photo is signed by Turcotte. Nm photos with gem mint 10 signatures. Secretariat was named the 35th best athlete of the 20th century by ESPN, and 81st by Associated Press. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 111. Kent Desormeaux Signed Photo with 2008 Derby, Preakness Winner Big Brown. Awesome 8”x10” action color photo taken at the 2008 Kentucky Derby and boldly signed by Desormeaux, his jockey. A member of the National Museum and Racing Hall of Fame, Desormeaux is one of the most successful jockeys in the history of racing. In 1989, he set a record for most wins in a season – 598. In 2008, Desormeaux guided Big Brown to big victories in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. The horse faltered, however, in the Belmont Stakes, which Desormeaux won this year with Summer Bird.
