Lot 24.  1888 N28 Allen & Ginter’s World Champions Card of Joseph Mulvey. This blank-backed card of the Philadelphia third baseman was cut from a sheet and has slightly uneven borders on the top and right side. Vg-ex appearance.

Lot 25.  Colorized 1889 Harper’s Page Featuring the N.L. NY Giants and Boston Beaneaters. Full beautifully colorized page from April 27 drawn by C. D. Gibson and titled “The First League Game of the Base-Ball Season.” Gibson provides a montage of drawings, including equipment in the lower left corner and inset portraits of Ward, Ewing, Whitney, Keefe, Welch and Tiernan. Extremely attractive woodcut print.

Lot 92.  Bare Knuckles 19th Century Lithograph “A Prize Fight” by Henry Thomas Aiken. Colorful 7 ¾” x 11 ¾” print on 10 ¾” x 16” paper, apparently published in 1820 in London by Thomas McLean. The image area, which has a light stain in the upper right, is free of creases. There is one large stain and a couple of lighter stains in the border. Impressive artwork providing a quality representation of gloveless fisticuffs.

Lot 103.  Allen and Ginter Cards – Two 1887 N28 and Three 1888 N29. The 1887 cards are of marksman A. H. Bogardus and wrestler Edwin Bibby. For both cards, text on the back is completely gone; the front of the Bogardus card grades vg, and Bibby, vg. The 1888 cards are “all around athlete” M. W. Ford, runner W. G. George and club swinger Gus Hill. Ford has a stain on the back and an irregular right border; g-vg. George is f-g with two small spots of paper loss on the back and another small spot on his moustache. The back of the Hill card has been skimmed; the front is g.

Lot 104.  3 1888 N184 W. S. Kimball Champions of Games and Sports Cards. The athletes are J. H. Jordan, Champion Live Pigeons Shot, p-f, looks nicer. Wm Byrd Page, Champion High Jumper, f-g. And H. M. Schloss, Champion Sprinter, f-g.

Lot 168.  Circa 1890 Goodwin & Co. “Welcome Cigarettes” Large Die-Cut, Trade Card. The die-cut stands 10” tall in a red, white and blue star-studded dress. The front is free of problems except for a crease in the left boot and a couple of very minor edge chips. The blank back has scrapbook residue. The 3” x 4 ¾” trade card, which uses the same artwork, has a f-g front and back damage. About 80% of the type on the back is present. Both items are rare!
