Lot 167. Pittsburgh Pirates 1971 Arco Near Set, IDL Cards, Plus Groat, Iron City Specials. The earliest and perhaps most interesting item in this group is a 5 ½” x 8” b&w premium of Dick Groat handed out on April 17, 1961, at the now-defunct Joseph Horne Co. store in Pittsburgh. Groat was there to promote his book The World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Printed on thin paper; vg appearance. There also are four uncommon b&w photos, two each of Richie Hebner and Bruce Kison. The Hebner photos, given away at “Iron City Father Son Night,” grade ex-m and vg. One Kison photo is ex+, and the other is g; they were handed out at “Iron City Family Sports Night.” The 1963 IDL cards are of Francis and McBean. Both are vg. Hebner is missing from the 1971 Arco issue. The 11 cards present all have multiple pin holes in the center at the top. They display nicely. Without the pin holes considered, Clemente is vg, and Stargell vg-ex. The others range from g to ex and average vg to vg-ex. 18 items.
