Lot 81. Robin Roberts Signed Copy of The Whiz Kids and the 1950 Pennant. The Hall of Fame Phillies pitcher wrote the book with C. Paul Rogers III. The 390-page hardback book is illustrated with 80 black & white photos; 1996, nm-m book and dust jacket. Roberts signature on the title page, with “Best Wishes” above, is a 10. Lot 94. Steve Carlton Signed 11” x 14” Photo, 1997 Perez-Steele “Great Moments” Card. Both autographs are gem mint 10s. The card is nm-m, and the color photo is ex-m with light corner creases. If Carlton wasn’t baseball’s best left-handed pitcher ever, few others have a stronger case. Among lefties, only Warren Sphan won more games than Carlton, and only right-hander Nolan Ryan struck out more batters. In addition, he won four N.L. Cy Young Awards even though he was not well liked among the writers who made the selection. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1994. Lot 117. ONL Ball Signed by 5 HoF Phils – Ashburn, Bunning, Carlton, Roberts, Schmidt. Nm-m very slightly off-white ball signed on the sweet spot by Rich Ashburn, on the north panel by Steve Carlton, on the south by Robin Roberts and Jim Bunning and on the west by Mike Schmidt. Each player added his year of Hall of Fame induction. The autographs are mints 9s and gem mint 10s. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 121. Andy Seminick Day” Program Signed by Seminick and HoFer Ray Dandridge. “Seminick spent time behind the plate for the Phils in 12 of his 15 major league seasons. He played also for Cincinnati. After retiring from pro baseball, he became the first baseball coach for Florida Tech in Melbourne. He coached the Panthers from 1961-77 and won 276 games. In 1999, the school named its new baseball field for him and Andy Hall, another Florida Tech baseball coach. Seminick passed away in 2004. He was last surviving everyday player from the 1950 Phils “Whiz Kids” team. He and Dandridge both signed the cover of the eight-page program, which is vg-ex. Their signatures are mint 9s. Dandridge was the premier third baseman of the Negro Leagues. He never was given a chance to play in the majors. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1987. He retired to Florida after working as a bartender and recreation direction in Newark. He passed away in 1994. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 126. 9 Autographed 8” x 10” Photos Including Berra, Carlton, Roberts and Spahn. Yogi Berra’s signature is on an 8” x 10” black & white photo that shows him with Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams. Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts share a color photo as Phillies pitching standouts, and Roberts and Warren Spahn share another color glossy as the winningest pitchers of the 1950s. The other signatures are by Dick Allen (color, White Sox), Javi Lopez, John Sain (3, sepia) and Andy Seminick (sepia). The autographs are 10s, and the photos, generally nm or better. Lot 127. 18 Autographs of Philadelphia Phillies – Ashburn, Carlton, Roberts, Allen, Etc. The signatures are gem mint 10s on 13 different 8” x 10” color photos that are nm or better unless otherwise noted. Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts signed a photo that pictures both Hall of Fame pitchers. The other photos are single-signed by Dick Allen, Rich Ashburn (7 ¼” x 9 ¼” sepia picture on thin paper stock), Don Cardwell, Bubba Church (2 different sepia photos), Roberts (3 different, 1 color, 2 b&w), Eddie Sawyer, Andy Seminick (2 different, 1 sepia, 1 b&w) and Curt Simmons (b&w). In addition, four autographs are on a calendar page with artwork by Thomas Kolendra depicting Connie Mack Stadium. The 10” x 14 ½” page is signed by Roberts, Seminick, Church and Simmons. Lot 136. Warren Spahn and Robin Roberts Signed Photo as the 1950s Winningest Pitchers. The 11” x 14” nm-m color photo has gem mint 10 signatures of both pitchers. Below his autograph, Spahn added “363 wins,” the total number of wins for his career. He won 202 games in the ‘50s. Roberts entered two numbers, 199, his 1950s victories, and 286, the total for his career. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 137. 3 Phillies-Signed 11” x 14” Photos Including Carlton, Roberts. Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts each signed a separate photo and added his Hall of Fame induction year. The signatures are 10s, Carlton’s on a nm-m photo, and Roberts on a photo that has two 1” creases along the right edge and a corner crease. The other signatures, all 10s, are on a black & white photo that features 1950 “Whiz Kids” manager Eddie Sawyer and shows other players in the dugout. Lot 156. 1968 Phillies Program, 1966 and 1968 Orioles Programs. The 28-page Philadelphia program is for a game with Pittsburgh; neatly scored in pen, ex. It pictures 17 Phillies, including Bunning and Allen. This Orioles programs are ex, 1966 (28 pages) vs. California and 1968 (38 pages) vs. New York (scored). The 1966 program contains features on Frank and Brooks Robinson. Both are pictured in the 1968 program as well.

Lot 157. Tug McGraw’s Book Lumpy: A Baseball Fable. Ex softcover with a price sticker on the back, 7 ¾” x 9”, by McGraw with Stephanie Gangi and illustrated by Jim Ellis. Published in 1981 by Running Press of Philadelphia. Nicely illustrated uncommon 40-page book with a mint unused plastic 33 1/3 rpm record inside, “The Official Sound Track for Lumpy” featuring McGraw. Delightful publication!
