Football Autographs   6 Lots

Lot 63.  Ollie Matson and Marion Motley Autographs on a Hall of Fame Jersey-Sweatshirt. Matson’s signature is a mint 9 and Motley’s an nm-m 8; both are personalized to “Earl.” These Hall of Fame performers were among the early African-American players in the NFL. In 1952, after winning gold and silver medals at the Olympics in Helsinki, Matson shared Rookie-of-the-Year honors with Hugh McElhenny in the NFL. Motley was one of the greatest fullbacks in football history. From 1946-49, he led the AAFC in rushing, and in 1950, the NFL. The Cleveland Browns invented the “trap” play to take advantage of Motley’s skills. The nm jersey comes with a provenance letter from Earl Watson, who obtained the autographs while serving as a doorman at the Hotel Knickerbocker. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $25.
