Lot 69.  Walter Alston Autographed Autobiography: A Year at a Time. Alston’s success as the manager of the Dodgers of Brooklyn and Los Angeles earned him a place in the Hall of Fame in 1983. He brought Brooklyn its only World Championship in 1955, and he led the Dodgers to three more championships in LA. Alston signed the front end-page of the book, and his signature is a 10. He passed away in 1984. The book, written with Jack Tobin and published in 1976, is ex-m in an ex dust jacket with clipped inside corners. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 72.  The New York Giants Putnam Team History Signed by Frank Graham, the Author. Graham’s book, published in 1952, provides a history of the Giants from the 1880s through the 1951 season. First edition hardback, 308 pages, ex-m book, g-vg dust jacket with writing on the back. Graham, who wrote for the New York Sun and New York Journal-American, signed the first title page “To Stan – As always – Frank.” The signature is a 10. Graham is deceased. He received the Baseball Hall of Fame’s J. G. Taylor Spink Award in 1971. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 73.  The (Boston) Braves: The Pick and the Shovel Signed by the Author, Al Hirshberg. Widely known as the author of Fear Strikes Out concerning Jimmy Piersall, Hirshberg traces the history of the Boston Braves from 1914 through the mid-1940s in this 224-page 1948 hardback. Ex book in a vg dust jacket with a chip at the top of the spine. Hall of Fame manager Billy Southworth wrote the foreword to the book. Hirshberg signed the front end-page with a gem mint 10 signature. Hirshberg is deceased. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 74.  Autographed Copy of Hello everybody, I’m George Kell. The Hall of Fame third baseman wrote this book with Dan Ewald; 1998, apparent first edition, 214 pages, nm-m book, ex-m dust jacket. Kell signed the flyleaf, “Best Wishes, George Kell, HOF 83.” His signature is a gem mint 10. Kell passed away in March. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 75.  The Cleveland Indians Putnam Team History Signed by the Author, Franklin Lewis. In this 276-page hardback, Lewis provides almost 80 years of Indians baseball history. First edition, 1949, ex book, vg spine-sunned dust jacket with several edge and corner chips. Lewis signed the front end-page, and his autograph is a gem mint 10. He was sports editor of the Cleveland Press from 1939 until his death in 1958. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 76.  Eddie Mathews Autographed Autobiography. With Bob Buege, Mathews wrote Eddie Mathews and the National Pastime. This 1994 softcover is ex-m with a “bow” in the back. Mathews signed the title page of 348-page book. His signature is a 10, and Kevin Keating authenticated it. The Hall of Fame third baseman, a member of the 500 Home Run Club, passed away 2001. Lot 77.  The Artful Dodgers Autographed by the Author, Tom Meany. This 246-page first edition hardback features profiles of Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella and other Dodgers by Meany and fellow writers. Published in 1953, it’s the second in a series of team-focused books compiled by Meany. Willard Mullin provided the artwork for the book’s dust jacket and also wrote the “Foreword to a Foreword.” The book and dust jacket are ex; the dj shows sunning along the spine. Meany wrote for Brooklyn and New York Newspapers and received the Baseball Hall of Fame’s J. G. Taylor Spink Award. He passed away in 1964. His signature on the book’s flyleaf is a gem mint 10 personalized to “Harold” with the added note, “See you at the All-Star game.” Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 78.  Tom Meany Autographed Copy of The Incredible Giants. Meany was a gifted sportswriter who posthumously received the Baseball Hall of Fame’s J. G. Taylor Spink Award in 1975. Published in 1955, this 256-page apparent first edition hardback focuses on the 1954 World Champion Giants. The book is ex, and the dust jacket, complete and g+ to vg. Meany signed the flyleaf, and his signature is a 10 personalized to another excellent sportswriter, Jack Hernon of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Meany was only 60 when he died in 1964. Lot 79.  Hal Newhouser Signed Copy of His Biography, A Tiger in His Time. Subtitled Hal Newhouser and the Burden of Wartime Baseball, the 1990 first edition hardback details “Prince Hal’s” Hall of Fame pitching career in 289 pages. Actually, author David M. Jordan makes a strong case for Newhouser’s enshrinement at Cooperstown, which occurred two years after the book was published. The book and dust jacket are nm. Newhouser’s signature on the flyleaf is a bold, gem mint 10. Newhouser passed away in 1998. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 80.  Buck O’Neil Signed Copy of His Autobiography, I Was Right on Time. O’Neil signed the second inside page of the hardback book, which has the Simon & Schuster logo. The autograph is a large mint 9 to gem mint 10. The first baseman and later the manager of the Kansas City Monarchs, O’Neil received many awards for his career and life, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Unfortunately, he failed to make it into the Hall of Fame in 2006 when 17 other Negro League players were selected through a special ballot, and he passed away shortly thereafter. Following his death, the Hall of Fame created a Lifetime Achievement Award in his honor. O’Neil’s autobiography was written with Steve Wulf and David Conrads, and it contains a foreword by Ken Burns. Nm book with minor foxing along the top edge, nm dust jacket, 1996, apparent first edition. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 81.  Robin Roberts Signed Copy of The Whiz Kids and the 1950 Pennant. The Hall of Fame Phillies pitcher wrote the book with C. Paul Rogers III. The 390-page hardback book is illustrated with 80 black & white photos; 1996, nm-m book and dust jacket. Roberts signature on the title page, with “Best Wishes” above, is a 10. The four stars signed the first title page of this 1988 softcover, Cincinnati and the Big Red Machine by Robert Harris “Hub” Walker. The autographs are large, bold 10s. Lot 83.  Bill Veeck Autographed Copy of The Hustler’s Handbook. Veeck’s signature on the front end-page is a gem mint 10. It shares the page with a label containing the book owner’s name; the label could be matted out. In this book, a follow-on to Veeck as in Wreck, the Hall of Fame baseball executive provides a wealth of stories about and opinions on baseball. Veeck was one of baseball’s great innovators and promoters. His innovations and successes with the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox earned him a place in the Hall of Fame in 1991, five years after his death. The 1965 book, written with Ed Linn, is vg+ to ex, and the dust jacket, ex. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
