Lot 11.  1936 R314 Goudey Wide Pen Premium Type 1 of of HoF Shortstop Arky Vaughan. G-vg with creases along the top and bottom borders and another above Vaughan’s left shoulder.

Lot 13.  1940 R335 Play Ball Cards of #168 Honus Wagner and #176 Heine Manush. At first glance, the Wagner card has a vg-ex appearance, but closer examination reveals three smalls tears, 1/8” or less, along the right border. The card is free of creases. F+, and attractive. The Manush card has strong corners and a relatively heavy vertical crease. G.

Lot 29.  1909-11 T206 Old Mill Card of Lefty Leifield Graded 50 VG-EX 4 by SGC. This card features the pitching pose of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ winningest hurler from 1906-11. His 19-8 record helped Pittsburgh to win the world championship in 1909. The card seems to free of any obvious crease except for a small one in a corner.

Lot 45.  3 High-Grade 1954 Bowman Pittsburgh Pirates Graded by SGC. One card, #27 Cole, is graded 86 NM+ 7.5. The two others are graded 84 NM 7: #43 Friend and 123 Atwell.

Lot 49.  8 High-Grade Topps Pittsburgh Pirates Cards 1969-78, 6 Graded by PSA. GAI graded two 1969 Topps cards, and both are NM-MT 8: #51 Fryman and 520 Veale. Four cards are graded PSA MINT 9: 1973 #95 Blass and 225 Oliver; 1974 #402 Rooker, and 1978 #510 Stargell. The remaining two cards feature Dave Parker: 1974 #252, his rookie, graded NM 7 by PSA, and 1975 #29 graded NM-MT 8.

Lot 100.  1940s Album Loaded with Pirates Signatures – Lloyd Waner, Al Lopez, Etc. This vintage autograph album contains more than 40 autographs; there are a number of duplicates, particularly of Frank(ie) Gustine. The signatures are overwhelmingly 9s and 10s in pencil. Among the players and others who signed, besides Waner and Lopez, are Max Butcher (died 1957 at 46), Rip Sewell (d. 1989), Rosey (Rowswell), Vince DiMaggio (d. 1986, comparatively tough autograph), Spud Davis (d. 1984), Frankie Zak (d. 1972), Gustine (d. 1991), Nick Strincevich, Dutch Dietz, John Lanning, Babe Dahlgren (d. 1996), Arthur Cuccurullo (d. 1983), Hugh Poland (Boston, d. 1984), Jim Russell, Cully Rikard (d. 2000), Charley Workman (d. 1953 at 37), Lee Handley, Alf Anderson (d. 1985), Kerby Farrell (d. 1975), Red Barrett (d. 1974), Babe Phelps (d. 1992), Ed Stewart, Bob Klinger and Luke Hamlin. Some good names and nice break-up value! Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 124.  The Pittsburgh Pirates: A Pictorial History Signed by Stargell, Maz and Biederman. Richard L. Burtt, a retired U.S. Steel executive, compiled this coffee table 152-page volume, and Les Biederman, who covered the Pirates for more than 30 years for the Pittsburgh Press, provided “recollections and anecdotes.” They and Willie Stargell (d. 2001) and Bill Mazeroski autographed the flyleaf. Their signatures are 10s. Burtt signed as “Dick Burtt.” The 1977 hardback is ex-m in a vg dust jacket. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 131.  Three Rivers Stadium 1970 “Souvenir Book.” The Pittsburgh Pirates prepared this 104-page program-format publication to mark the opening of Three Rivers Stadium. It provides information on the construction of the stadium, Pirates history, photos of 1970 players and features on Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner and the Waner brothers. Nice ex-m copy.

Lot 144.  1962 Pitt at Notre Dame Football Program. The Fighting Irish won this game, 43-22, for one of five wins in a season that also saw five losses. Pitt finished with the same 5-5 record. The program features some familiar names, including Daryle Lamonica at quarterback for Notre Dame and Marty Schottenheimer at center, Jim Traficant at quarterback and Paul Martha at halfback for the Panthers. All are pictured, and so are John Huarte and Jack Snow for Notre Dame. The 68-page program has a vg-ex cover with Lon Keller artwork and ex-m contents.

Lot 145.  Freshman Terry Bradshaw in Louisiana Tech’s 1967 Yearbook. Called The Lagniappe, the yearbook shows Bradshaw in an individual picture as a freshman member of the 1966 varsity football team. Bradshaw is shown in street clothes. He is mentioned in some summaries of 1966 games. Bradshaw led the team in passing in three subsequent seasons and was a consensus All-American in 1968 and 1969. Ex-m yearbook with the owner’s name inside the front cover.

Lot 199.  7 Early 1900s Shets of Sales Stationery from the Pittsburgh Brewing Co. Makers of Iron City Beer, Pittsburgh Brewing had breweries throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania in the early 1900s. They are listed on the 8 ½” x 9 ¼” stationery, which was used for recording sales, apparently from 1900 through 1909. One sheet is f, and the others are ex and better. Pittsburgh Brewing continues, but the local breweries are gone.
