Lot 134. 6 Copies of Baseball Magazine, 1944-52, with Star Covers. Actually, President Grover Cleveland is the cover star of the earliest issue, from June 1944. Cleveland is pictured on a $100 U.S. Savings Bond. A crowd scene from Yankee Stadium is in the background. MLB actively promoted the sale of bonds to support the World War II effort. Vg-ex. 2. Dec. 1947, cover photo with Jackie Robinson being caught in a rundown by Bill Johnson, Frank Shea and Phil Rizzuto of the Yankees in Game 1 of the 1947 World Series. Team photos of the World Series competitors are on the inside covers. Vg. 3. June 1948, President Harry Truman throws out the first ball at the season-opening game between the Senators and Yankees. Clark Griffith and Bucky Harris are in the photo. New stand mark on the cover, vg-ex. 4. Sept. 1948, outstanding cover photo of a young Stan Musial. There is a tear on the right edge toward the bottom, and a ½” tear in the same position on all the pages. 5. Sept. 1952, Babe Ruth, several images including one with Lou Gehrig, vg+ with a couple of news stand notations. Inside the back cover is a photo of Carl Erskine pitching his no-hit, nearly perfect game against the Cubs. 6. June 1952, Willie Mays, Johnny Mize, Casey Stengel and others, vg+ to ex, news stand notation. The pages in three of the last four issues are generally ex or better.
