Baseball Memorabilia   5 Lots

Lot 135.  Fabulous Frank Lanning Print of 19th Century HoF Pitcher “Old Hoss” Radbourn. In 1884, Radbourn set a record that remains unequaled – he won 59 regular-season games while pitching the Providence Grays to the National League championship. He then won three more games in the post-season as Providence swept New York of the American Association in what may be considered the first World Series. Of course, after the 1884 season, Radbourn’s arm was never quite the same. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1939. Radbourn’s image is captured in a 16” x 20” print from artwork by Frank Lanning, sports cartoonist for the Providence Journal. Only Willard Mullin is more highly regarded than Lanning among creators of sports cartoons in the 1950s-era. The print is mounted are art board and is nm-m. Impressive display item!
Winning Bid $20.

Lot 136.  11” x 13” Ted Williams Reproduction Moxie Tin Litho Sign – from Cuba! Strange as it seems, our consignor obtained this colorful sign by Desperate Sign Co. of Wadsworth, OH, from a source in Cuba. The sign has lost its luster, but the colors are strong. There are bends and paint loss in the corner, “10-93” is lightly written on Williams’ uniform and there are scattered tiny stains and scratches. Viva Moxie!
Minimum Bid $9.

Lot 137.  Baseball Grab Bag: 1970 SI with a Mays Cover, Topps Wrapper, Etc. The Sports Illustrated commemorates Mays’ 3,000th hit. Extremely nice cover photo. G-vg with minor paper loss where the mailing label was removed. The wax wrapper is from a 1951 Topps “Doubles” Red Back pack, which displays well with the usual folds and a ¾” tear on the back. Also, an Andy Benes autograph, a 10, on an 8” x 10” photo of his 1985 Topps card and a brochure from the 1992 All-Star Game in San Diego for the Los Angeles Times Fund, ex-m.
Minimum Bid $10.

Lot 138.  4 Baseball Display Items - the Seagram’s “Tinker to Evers to Chance” Mirror, Etc. Framed to 15” x 18”, the mirror pictures the three Cubs stars and is ex-m with some silvering away from the main image area. 2. Cooperstown Brewing Old Slugger Pale Ale ad with Nap Lajoie framed to 12 ½” x 15 ½”, nm item with some nicks on the frame. 3. “Safe Hit” 7” x 9” box label for “Texas Vegetables,” ex. 4. Camel Cigarettes 10 ½” x 13 ½” ad from the Oct. 12, 1935 Collier’s with endorsements from Lou Gehrig, Rip Collins, Carl Hubbell, Mel Ott and Harold Schumacher. The ad displays as vg+ to ex with some minor discoloration at the top and bottom and in a tiny area on the left side. The ad is in a 14” x 18” frame.
Winning Bid $30.

Lot 139.  Baseball Grab Bag: Heaton Signature, Koufax Magazine Cover, Mets Pin. Neal Heaton autographed a Montreal Expos postcard; the signature is a 10. Sandy Koufax is on the cover of the Aug. 2, 1963 issue of Life; g-vg with a 1” split along the spine and small edge tears. A 3 ½” button with the 1986 World Series logo recognizes the New York Mets as National League Champions, vg-ex with surface scratches; looks better. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $10.
