Pittsburgh Pirates Cards, Autographs and Memorabilia
5 Lots
Lot 61. 2 Tough Autographs of 1960s Pittsburgh Pirates – Umbricht and Olivo. Both Jim Umbricht and Diomedes Olivo had brief turns with the World Champion 1960 Pirates. Both have passed away, Umbricht in 1964, and Olivo in 1977. Their signatures are on a side panel of a Gauss CG1 Official League Ball, which is ex-m. They share the panel with Dick Gray. Overall, the autographs are nm 7. Umbricht’s name is complete. The “vo” of Olivo’s last name runs into the stitching. There is minor damage to the ball that affects the “D” in Gray’s name. Another side panel is signed by Bob Tiefenaur (d. 2000), who played in the majors in 1952, 1955 and 1960-68, and Artie Quirk, who played for Baltimore and Washington in 1962 and 1963, respectively. Tiefenauer’s signature is a nm 7, and Quirk, a nm-m 8. Also on the panel are Artie Kay, International League ERA leader in 1959, and a fourth signer.
