Lot 57. 1924 Thos. E. Wilson & Co. 1924 Official Baseball Record and Rule Book This scarce 96-page guide in a 3” x 5 ½” format contain major league baseball statistics for 1923 as well as standings for various minor leagues. Long split along the spine; otherwise, vg-ex. The guide was used for promotional purposes by a Salem, N.J., sporting goods business.

Lot 58. Time, Life and SI Baseball Covers – DiMaggio, Mantle, Campanella, Rose. Joe DiMaggio is on the cover of the Oct. 4, 1948 issue of Time. Cover only, which is adhered to a 10 ½” x 13 ½ artboard backing. Vg-ex and label-free. The other issues are complete and have labels. A Life issue from June 8, 1953 has Roy Campanella on the cover, ex, and a June 25, 1956 issue, Mickey Mantle, vg. Pete Rose is on the covers of Aug. 19, 1985 and July 10, 1989 issues of Time and April 3 and July 3, 1989 issues of SI. They average ex. Another issue of Time, April 7, 1986, has a Dwight Gooden cover, g-vg. One cover and seven complete issues.

Lot 60. 6 Baseball Periodicals with Mickey Mantle Covers. Mantle has three covers to himself: 1. Dell 1956 Baseball Stars, vg+, back cover taped, great photo of a very young Mantle. 2. Dell 1957 Baseball Annual, vg-ex, very small tear on the back cover and some stress tears along the spine away from an outstanding photo of Mantle that has an ex appearance. 3. World Series from Complete Sports, 1965, vg-ex, date stamped on cover. Also has a color photo of Mantle inside. Mantle shares three covers with other stars: 4. True 1956 Baseball Yearbook, g+ to vg, center fold and surface wear. Also pictures Musial, Mathews and Berra. 5. 1967 Baseball Illustrated, vg, with Frank Robinson. 6. 1962 Baseball Photo and Autograph Album, ex, 1 ½” spine split at the bottom, with Spahn and Maris.

Lot 143. Baseball Books, 1950s-60s Periodicals, a W.S. Program and a Mickey Mantle Cover. At age 50, Mantle is pictured on the cover of the Aug. 15, 1982 Family Weekly, ex. A three-page article is inside. There are four baseball magazines: Complete Baseball, Summer 1950, Berra cover, vg-ex, pencil mark on cover. Inside Baseball, Oct. 1952, Maglie-Rizzuto-Musial cover, vg-ex. Baseball Monthly, first and second issues, March and April 1962, vg-ex. The second issue has a feature on Roberto Clemente. The World Series program is for 1989, Oakland vs. San Francisco, vg-ex. The books are from the “Baseball Legends” series, Mickey Mantle by Mark and Neil Gallagher, 1991, and Joe DiMaggio by Marty Appel, 1990. Both are ex-m hardbacks without dust jackets as issued.

Lot 193. 1923 NY Times Picture History Portfolio, 1961 The Norman Rockwell Album. . Both publications are hardbound. The Portfolio from the Times’ Mid-Week Pictorial contains 480 pages of photos and text covering U.S. history, art, drama, science, sports and current events. The 11” x 16 3/8” publication opens with full-page sepia portraits of the first 30 U.S. Presidents, from Washington through Coolidge. Fifty pages are devoted to sports, with Dempsey, Ruth, Cobb, Bobby Jones and Hagen among the athletes pictured. Vg binding, pages generally ex with some tears. The 192-page Rockwell first edition is vg-ex without the slipcover or special insert. Pages are mostly ex-m and include full-page (10 ½” x 13 5/8”) portraits of Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy.

Lot 200. 1970s-80s Hobby Publications: First CPU, TCMA, Fritch + Card and Show Promos. The first of the baseball card monthly price guides, Card Prices Update debuted in Sept. 29, 1979 with Mickey Mantle on the cover. Seven additional issues of the first 12 are present. They average vg-ex. Also, the March 1985 issue of Current Card Prices, vg, and eight 1988-89 issues of Baseball Card Price Guide, ex. One of the more interesting publications is the Jan. 1981 SCD Express. The cover is creased and barely attached; the rest is ex. There also are two 1987 issues of SCD (ex), seven 1979-80 issues of Baseball Hobby News (vg), three 1984 issues of Baseball Card News (vg), a 1988 Baseball Cards (vg-ex), the Dec. 1976 T’s Paper Americana (vg-ex), the Dec. 27, 1976 Sports Collectors News (vg) and a 1974 promo for The Sports Hobbyist (p). Also: 10 1970s issues of TCMA’s Baseball Advertiser, a 1986 Larry Fritsch catalog, a 1990 Lew Lipset auction, and a 1977 catalog for the Sports Corner, billed as the “first baseball card shop in the U.S.A.” There also are some checklists, promos for Pro Set football, two tickets for a 1982 Eastern PA Sports Collectors Club Show and program for the 1981 “1st Seashore Baseball Card Show” in Ocean City, NJ.
