Lot 127. 1940s-50s Babe Ruth “Bat” Pen Knife. Orange 2 ½” handle in the shape of a bat houses a 1 ¾” blade. One side of the handle has “’Babe’ Ruth” impressed in gold followed by a baseball. About half of the gold color is gone; the impression remains.

Lot 128. 1907 Baseball Trophy Cup. The Ivanhoe Fire Department baseball team won this cup, which is as much as 7” tall and 6 ½” across, at the Irish Volks Fest on Sept. 22. The cup displays decently and would look great if re-plated.

Lot 129. 64 Vintage Ads with Baseball Hall of Fame Members and Stars. Overwhelmingly, these advertisements are from 1930s-50s magazines and newspapers. Two with Walter Johnson are earlier. In a 1913 ad, Johnson promotes Royal Tailors, and in a 1914 ad, Tuxedo Tobacco. The first is 6 ¾” x 9 ¾” and vg with some edge stains and staple holes on the left. The 7 5/8” x 10 7/8” Tuxedo ad, which is adhered to stiff paper, is vg+ to ex. Three ads are in full newspapers: Mickey Cochrane, Goose Goslin and other Tigers promote Camel Cigarettes; Jackie Jensen endorses Gillette, and The Sporting News uses Hall of Fame plaques in conjunction with a contest in which a trip to Cooperstown is the top prize. Four different ads are two-page spreads: Ted Williams for 1951 Dodge, Mickey Mantle for the National Youth Sales Club (2 copies), Bob Feller for Wheaties and Joe DiMaggio, Lou Boudreau and others for Camel (2). Stars of other ads are Berra (2), Cobb, Dickey-Ott (2), DiMaggio (8), Durocher, Feller (3), Gehrig (8), Joost, Kaline (2), Kiner, Larsen, Mantle (5), Maris, Mathews, Mize, Musial (5), Reynolds, Stengel, Vander Meer-Bearden, Williams (5), Wynn. Also, William Bendix as Babe Ruth in “The Babe Ruth Story” and Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig in “Pride of the Yankees.” There are some duplicates. This collection includes two other interesting items: The paper board for the 1930 Roulette Base Ball Game from Bar-Zim Toy Mfg. and the dust jacket for the 1953 book The Real McGraw by Mrs. McGraw. Lot 130. 1935 Bismarck, ND, National Semi-Pro Champs Reprint Photo with Satchel Paige. "That was the best team I ever saw; the best players I ever played with. But who ever heard of them?" That’s how Paige remembers the 1935 Bismarck team, which was assembled by Neil Churchill, a local car salesman. Besides Paige, the integrated team included Barney Morris, Hilton Smith, Double Duty Radcliffe, Red Haley and Quincy Trouppe from the Negro Leagues. Unsurprisingly, the team went undefeated for the entire 1935 season, winning the first Semi-Pro National Baseball Championship at Wichita, Kansas. Lot 131. 11 Different Circa 1950 Hand-Painted Metal Baseball Figures. The players wear blue and white uniforms and stand 2” to 2 ½” tall. There are two pitchers, two batters, a catcher, four fielders, a home plate umpire and another umpire. All of the poses are different. Most of the figures show some wear on high spots and have at least 95 percent of the paint present.

Lot 139. 1953 Louisville Slugger Newspaper Ad with Mathews, Furillo, Rosen and Vernon. Louisville Slugger Hillerich & Bradsby ad features Mickey Vernon and Carl Furillo as 1953 Batting Champs and Ed Mathews and Al Rosen as Home Run Champs. The b&w ad measures 16 ¼” x 23 ½” and is ex-m. It was placed in conjunction with the “Minor League Meeting” in Atlanta.

Lot 140. Philadelphia Sports Publications: Phillies, Athletics, Sixers, Flyers and Eagles. . Two items commemorate the Athletics: A 1 ½” blue and white circa 1950 “Athletics” pin with blue and white ribbon, and a Philadelphia Inquirer magazine with a feature on “The 1929 Athletics: Really the Greatest Ever.” Ex-m. Most of this collection focuses on the Phillies: Programs for 1940 vs. Chicago, 1972 vs. Expos and 1988 vs. Pittsburgh, vg-ex.
