Al Schacht Autograph in a Book Personalized to HoF Manager Bucky Harris.
Lot 135. Al Schacht Autograph in a Book Personalized to HoF Manager Bucky Harris. A decent pitcher, Schacht is best remembered as the “Clown Prince of Baseball.” Harris was a good second baseman who earned a spot in the Hall of Fame as a manager. The two men were rookies with the Washington Senators in 1919 and played together in 1920 and 1921. Schacht’s signature is on the front end-page of My Own Particular Screwball, his “informal autobiography.” The autograph is personalized to “Bucky,” and in the inscription that follows, Schacht writes, in part, “You made a great pitcher out of me in 1919. You never got a hit off me.” The ballpoint signature, dated Aug. 7, 1958, is a mint 9. The book, a 1955 first edition missing the dust jacket, is vg-ex. Great Washington item! Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $83.
