Tilden ex. 1935 Senior Service “Sporting Events and Stars” #43 F.J. Perry and H.W. Austin nm+. 1938 Ardath “Photocards” Fred Perry ex-m+.

Lot 583.  Rare Turn-of-the-Century Hook ‘N Eye Card with A Tennis Theme. The card holds a dozen unused hooks ‘n eyes that were used to bind the early blouses and shirts worn on the tennis court and elsewhere. The card features graphics representing an early tennis game. The 7” x 2 ¼” card is ex-m.

Lot 584.  Original 1929 Wire Photo of Bill Tilden and H. V. S. Dillon at Wimbledon. Neither player pictured in this 6” x 8” sepia photo made it to the finals in 1929. Tilden captured the championship there in 1920, 1921 and again in 1930. The photo has a tiny chip in the lower right corner, a small tear at the lower right and a crease just inside the image area at the bottom. The contrast and focus are sharp. The photo is from Culver Pictures and has the caption on the back.

Lot 585.  1961 UPI Photo of Arthur Ashe. This 7” x 9” wire photo, dated June 23, shows the young tennis star in action on the court. It captures “First-Ranked Arthur Ashe of Sumner High, St., Louis” winning the National Interscholastic Ten championship as he “breezed through finals.” The photo came from the files of the Wheeling Intelligencer. Ex.

Lot 586.  Vintage Tennis Photos, Silk. One photo is 8” x 10”, and two others, about 3” x 4”. Vg. The silk shows a man and woman playing tennis. G.

Lot 587.  4 1940s Photos of the Brown University Tennis Teams. These 8” x 10” b&w photos show the Freshman teams for 1947 and 1949 and the Varsity teams for 1947 and 1948. In all four photos, Wes Moulton is the coach. Moulton also coached hockey for Brown. All four photos have player names in ink and binder punch holes. Overall, g-vg with strong images.
