10 Lots
Lot 477. 1940s-50s Anonymous 8” x 10” Premium Photos of George Mikan, Hank Luisetti. In 1950, the Associated Press named Mikan the best player of the first half-century. Luisetti came in second. Both made key contributions to revolutionizing basketball. Mikan made it a game for big men. He was the game’s first big-man star. Luisetti set the game in motion. An All-America at Stanford and the first player to score 50 points in a game, he was among the first to shoot without coming to a stop and then getting set to make a shot. Both men are in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The b&w photos with their images are from an uncataloged series produced by an unidentified organization. In the 2007 Standard Catalog, SCD has begun to catalog the baseball premiums. Each photo has a blank back, white border and the player’s name in fancy lettering. Both have minor corner impressions from an album and are ex. Mikan wears a DePaul uniform, and Luisetti is in a college uniform.
