Lot 442.  2 Wire Photos 7” x 9” Featuring Branch Rickey. 1. Sepia photo shows Rickey receiving gifts from Pittsburgh Pirates front office executives on his 71st birthday. Rickey’s birth in 1881 would date the United Press Telephoto at 1952. Vg-ex. 2. Actually two photos on one 7” x 9” sheet; text reads in part, “Rickey is in St. Louis today for a sociable chat with the brothers DeWitt. It was rumored that he would make a new nest for himself in the Browny organization.” The DeWitts had a controlling interesting in the Browns. The b&w Acme Telephoto is vg-ex.

Lot 588.  Original 1938 Acme Wire Photo of Hack Wilson, Nightclub MC and Singer. The photo shows the future Hall of Fame outfielder dancing with a young woman at Flynn’s Place in Brooklyn. Wilson’s nightclub career apparently was short-lived. The photo is vg-ex and displays very well.

Lot 589.  Roy Campanella United Press Association 7” x 9” Wire Photo. Smiling, Campanella holds six bats. Although undated, the photo is from 1948-57 based on Campanella’s Brooklyn Dodgers uniform. Vg.

Lot 590.  Lou Gehrig 8” x 10” Black and White Photo. The photo has the look and texture of a premium. The source and date are unknown. Gehrig appears in Yankee pinstripe pants wearing a warm-up jacket. His name appears at the bottom. A great Gehrig image on an item we have not seen before. Vg-ex.

Lot 591.  1965 UPI Telephoto of Don Drysdale with His Wife, Ginger. The 7” x 9” photo with caption below shows Drysdale after he pitched a 1-0 shutout to move the Los Angeles Dodgers into first place in the National League. Ex+.

Lot 592.  Eddie Mathews United Press Association 7” x 7” Wire Photo. Although this black and white photo is not dated, Mathews appears in a Boston Braves uniform. That narrows the date to between 1952 and 1953. Vg-ex.

Lot 593.  Wide World 1928 World Series Wire Photo of Miller Huggins, Bill McKechnie. Original 8” x 10” wire photo shows the two Hall of Fame managers in a conversation prior to the start of the World Series. Huggins’ Yankees swept McKechnie’s Cardinals. The photo is g and displays much better with strong focus and contrast.

Lot 594.  1952 Connie Mack and Chief Bender 7” x 9” United Press Telephoto. In the photo, Bender receives a “scroll of tribute” from Jack Lohrmen, president of the Philadelphia Junior Chamber of Commerce, as Mack looks on. Vg-ex. The caption is attached to the back.

Lot 595.  Cabinet Photo of a 1903 Pennsylvania Baseball Team with Vintage Equipment. The photo, 6 ¼” x 8 ¼” on an 8 ½” x 11” mount, pictures 16 well-dressed team members with ring bats, vintage gloves and an array of hats. The mount indicates they are in Brookside Park, a trolley park in Dover Twp. near York. Photo by Harry G. Miller of York has a small scuff; mount has a chipped upper left corner. Sharp photo with strong contrast.

Lot 596.  10 Baseball Photographs, Including 8 Vintage. An outstanding early 1900s photo from a Richmond studio shows a young baseball player in a Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks uniform. The 4” x 6” sepia photo is nm with outstanding clarity and contrast. It is on a 6” x 9” mount from the studio. Two snapshots, each about 2 ½” x 4 ½”, capture baseball scenes from the 1930s. One shows a single player in uniform, and the other, four men apparently playing catch. The 1950 Key West, Fla., Naval Station South School Squad is the subject of an 8” x 10” photo, f with a strong image. Two 1960s 8” x 10” photos show officials of the St. Louis Cardinals, including a model of Busch Memorial Stadium. A third photo may be associated with the Cardinals. A 6” x 10” wire photo shows a ball flying into the stands. Two photos are reproductions, one of an early 1900s team, and the other, of an early 1900s player.
