Lot 449. T205 (Hassan Back) Minor League Card of Doc Adkins SGC-Graded Vg-Ex 50. Beautiful, comparatively scarce card with vibrant colors. Ex appearance with a tiny crease above Adkins’ left wrist. Technically, the grade is accurate, but it does not do this card justice. We’ve seen cards with higher grades that are far less attractive. It’s worth a premium bid.
Winning Bid $152.
Lot 451. Scarce Type Card – 1916 Indianapolis Brewing #19 Burns SGC-Graded Poor 10. Probably the toughest of the backs conforming to the M101-4 checklist. The card pictures George Burns, a first baseman who played for five different American League teams in 16 seasons and hit .307 lifetime. It is a decent example with creases and minor stains on the front and very minor, incidental paper loss on the back.
Winning Bid $45.
Lot 452. 1921-22 W575-1-Koester’s Bread Card of Chicken Hawks Graded Vg 40 by SGC. The card is graded as a W575-1 issue, but it is just as likely to be from the 1921 Koester’s issue that commemorated the 1921 World Series with blank-backed cards of Yankees and Giants players. Hawks was an outfielder for the Yankees.
Winning Bid $92.
Lot 453. 1934-36 Diamond Stars #31a Kiki Cuyler Graded Ex 60 by SGC. A high-end nicely centered ex that could just as easily be ex-m. In our March auction, we sold this card unslabbed. The winning bidder, insisting that the card was trimmed, returned it. We decided to solicit an independent opinion. The plastic that now encases the card confirms our judgment: the card was not altered.
Winning Bid $83.
Lot 459. 5 1951 Bowman Baseball Cards (One High Number) SGC-Graded Ex-Nm 80. Card #298, which pictures Joe Astroth, is decently centered and has strong corners. The other cards are #57 Kellner, 120 Joe Coleman, 188 Avila (Rookie) and 245, John Berardino, long-time star of the tv soap opera “General Hospital.”
Winning Bid $77.
Lot 462. 5 1951 Bowman Baseball Cards (One High Number) Graded Nm+ 86 by SGC. Hal White, #320, represents the scarcer high series. The others are #158 Diering, 209 Wood, 237 Billy Goodman and 248 Klippstein. These cards are nicely centered with strong corners.
Winning Bid $165.
Lot 463. 5 1951 Bowman Baseball Cards SGC-Graded Nm-Mt 88. It is difficult to imagine how cards could be much better than these: #16 McDermott, 18 Coan, 124 Niarhos, 202 Guerra and 205 Grasso.
Winning Bid $193.
