Lot 108. Rare Early “Hurlingham” Handicap Tennis Racket. Bordering the Thames in Fulham, West London, and set in 42 acres of magnificent grounds, the Hurlingham Club is a gem of international renown. It has many tennis courts. This turn-of-the-century name-sake tennis racquet is in fabulous condition with its original patina. One side of the throat features a gold stamped insignia with a Germanic warrior atop an eagle and crown with partially readable wording “Deutscher (something) Verein Berlin” surrounding the insignia. The other side of the throat is stamped “Hurlingham.” The rim is stamped “Handicap.” The bottom of the racquet is stamped “Original Englisher Fabrika.” The racquet is complete with original gutting.
