Lot 250. Ticket Stub from the July 21, 1927 Jack Dempsey vs. Jack Sharkey Fight. This non-title bout represents one of boxing’s less shining moments. Ten months earlier, Dempsey had lost the heavyweight title to Gene Tunney. Facing Sharkey before a crowd of 72,000 at Yankee Stadium, Dempsey trailed through the first six rounds. In the seventh, Dempsey hit Sharkey with what, by most accounts, were a series of low blows. As Sharkey protested to the referee, Dempsey knocked himout with a left hook. Part of Dempsey’s image can be seen on the back of the stub, which is technically g-vg with a couple of creases in the top left and looks better.
