Lot 237. About 50 Newspaper Pages Chronicling the 1924, 1925 World Series. The Washington Senators participated in both, defeating the New York Giants in 1924 for the first World Championship, and then losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1925. About 25 individual pages record each series. The 1924 series is reported in the New York Times, and the 1925 series, in the New York Herald Tribune. The pages from the Times have chips around the edges, as well as tears on a number of horizontal folds. These pages are brittle. The Herald Tribune pages are much less brittle; they have edge chips and are generally free of tears. On Oct. 8, the day of the second game of the 1925 World Series, the Tribune reported the death of Christy Mathewson.
