Lot 177. Daily News World Series Cover Story Autographed by Sandy Koufax. Oct. 3, 1963 cover of New York’s Daily News picture newspaper is matted and framed to 12 ½” x 16 ½.” The headline reads: “15 Whiffs! Koufax Sets Series Record As Dodgers Slug Ford, 5-2.” Koufax signed the 3 3/4” x 7” picture in blue felt tip. The signature is a bold 10. Koufax struck out 15 Yankees, a record. Carl Erskine had held the record for 10 years at 14 strikeouts. With a small 1/2” tear above the picture on the right and a fold crease through the middle, the newspaper displays extremely well.
