Lot 169. Jackie Robinson Signature Authenticated by Global, Helen Sanders, Kevin Keating. Robinson’s bold, gem mint 10 autograph in blue ballpoint is on the back of a Hall of Fame Yellow Plaque postcard. Robinson wrote “Best wishes” above. Outstanding for framing, this signature was once in the collection of the late George Sanders, the noted collector and autograph authority. In fact, this autograph appears in Sanders’ 1999 book, The Sanders Price Guide to Sports Autographs. With the autograph is an 8” x 10” b&w photo of Sanders and Robinson. The autograph comes with a CoA from Sanders’ wife, Helen Doolittle Sanders, and an LoA and a CoA from Global. Kevin Keating also authenticated the autograph. Lot 170. 1993 ALCS-Used Blue Shoes Signed by Ricky Henderson. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Henderson’s high on-base percentage, runs scored and stolen base totals made him baseball’s premier leadoff hitter - maybe the best ever. He will become eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2009 - provided he does not return to major league play. These bright blue Mizuno shoes show excellent game use. Both still have dirt around the cleats. The right shoe has some scraping on the back heel. The front cleat is missing on the left shoe. Henderson signed both shoes in silver sharpie and added “A.L.C.S.” The signatures are mint 9s. Henderson played for Toronto in the 1993 ALCS. In this 31” x 26” print, double-matted and professionally framed to 41” x 35”, artist Robert Stephen Simon presents the highlights of DiMaggio’s career. The 56-game hitting streak, the third A.L. MVP award and election to the Baseball Hall of Fame are captured in newspaper headlines. DiMaggio is pictured on the covers of Time and Life. A portrait of DiMaggio is at the center of the collage. Lot 175. Plate Block of 1969 Baseball 100th Anniversary Stamps Signed by “Bucky” Harris. There are four signatures, one on each of the four 6-cent postage stamps. All are in blue ink. The plate block is vg. One signature is a 7, and the three others are 10s. Harris was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975 and died in 1977. If you want one item signed by Koufax, you’ll have a difficult time finding anything more attractive than this 34” commemorative bat. The barrel shows two colorful images of Koufax and lists his career highlights. Between these images at the end of the barrel and the Cooperstown logo, Koufax signed in blue sharpie. Oct. 3, 1963 cover of New York’s Daily News picture newspaper is matted and framed to 12 ½” x 16 ½.” The headline reads: “15 Whiffs! Koufax Sets Series Record As Dodgers Slug Ford, 5-2.” Koufax signed the 3 3/4” x 7” picture in blue felt tip. The signature is a bold 10. Koufax struck out 15 Yankees, a record. Carl Erskine had held the record for 10 years at 14 strikeouts. With a small 1/2” tear above the picture on the right and a fold crease through the middle, the newspaper displays extremely well. Lot 183. Willie Stargell Signature on a Stadium Series Forbes Field Bat. Cooperstown Bat Co. produced this 34” bat, which has on the barrel an image of Forbes Field and a brief history of what Pirates broadcaster Bob Prince dubbed “The House of Thrills.” The bat, #269 of 1,000, comes with certificate from the manufacturer; “269” is engraved on the knob. Stargell signed between the Cooperstown logo and the Forbes Field information. The autograph is one of the best Stargell signatures we have seen, a large, strong 10 in sharpie.
