Lot 276. Circa 1941 M.P. & Co. “War Scenes” Near Set - 45 of 48 – Plus Errors and Variations. MacArthur, Doolittle and Nimitz are the recognizable names in the set, which M.P. numbered 101-148 and printed the cards with black backs and blue. The blue backs appear to be a second printing. This collection consists of 59 cards, which includes three variations or errors and blue and black backs for some cards. Two cards are numbered 125; the black back is titled “Destroyer Attacking at Midway,” while the blue back says “Destroyers” instead. There is an error card for #126, “U.S.S. North Carolina Maneuvering for Attack”; the error is numbered 128. For #133, the black back identifies “2 powerful Jap Warships,” while the blue back mentions “7” ships. Thirty-six backs are printed in black, and 19 in blue. The missing cards are 112, 134 and 138. The cards grade Ex-m: 1 card. Ex+: 1. Ex: 7. Vg-ex: 15. Vg: 15. G-vg: 2. G: 5. F-g: 4. F: 6. P-F: 1.
