Lot 168. Babe Ruth Photos, One from the 1920s and One from 1938. Both are black & white. A 1938 2 ½” x 3 ½” snapshot captures Ruth posing as the “King of Swat” on a float in a parade, possibly in Las Vegas. Ex, small corner crease outside the image area. In the 1920s photo, a candid by Bloch Brothers of St. Louis, Ruth and other Yankees consume baseball-sized ice cream balls. Joe Dugan, Earl Combs, Wilcy Moore and Hank Johnson are among the other Yankees. This 8” x 10” photo is a recent print from an original negative.

Lot 169. Circa 1915 Advertisement for Ty Cobb Brand Sporting Goods. In 1912, Cobb bought a block of stock in the W. B. Jarvis Co., a sporting goods firm in Grand Rapids, and because a company director. Cobb is pictured in the 5 ½” x 8 ½” ad for the store, which appears to be from a magazine. The ad itself is clean and free of creases or other defects. The magazine page has several staple or punch holes along the left side and minor stains.

Lot 170. Late 1940s Comic Book Ads Featuring Musial, Feller, Ennis and Stanky. Stan Musial promotes Winthrop shoes, Bob Feller endorses Popsicles (Popsicle Pete) and Del Ennis and Eddie Stanky praise Wheaties, which provides “a swell start for the day” for Ennis. The Ennis ad has a border tear that reaches slightly into a blank area of the ad. The other ads are clean and free of significant defects; the borders may have stains, tears or both. A separate page credits Abner Doubleday with laying out the first baseball diamond and has drawings of Wagner, Speaker, Ruth, Gehrig, Young and Cobb.

Lot 171. 1930s “Melvin Ott” Hillerich & Bradsby “40 M.O.” Store Model Bat. Attractive 36” Louisville Slugger representing the Hall of Fame power-hitting outfielder, whose career spanned 1926-47. The bat has tape 17” from the knob along the handle and three ½” spots where damage has been repaired. Otherwise, the bat shows good use but not abuse, and it displays well. Ott store model bats are uncommon.

Lot 172. 2 1940s Rittgers Baseball Figures – Batter and Pitcher. Humorous baseball figures with the batter standing about 7 7/8” tall and wearing a red cap and a gray uniform with red piping and a blue “N” and “4.” He seems to have a larger left forearm than other examples we’ve seen. The pitcher, about 7 ½” tall, has a blue hat and white uniform with blue piping and a red “A” and blue “7.” The left leg of the batter has been repaired, and he shows a couple of tiny chips each on his cap and neck. He has a label for distributor Maurice A. Love of Buffalo on the bottom of his left shoe. The pitcher shows repairs to his right leg, some hairline cracks and small scuffs, and a chip on his right ear and jaw. Each figure has a 1941 Rittgers copyright impressed on the right shoe. Nice collector examples that display well.

Lot 173. Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 and 1970 Photo Pennants + an N.L. Centennial Pennant. All are full-sized. The color photo on the 1960 pennant displays as ex-m with a light crease. The pennant has a stain extending as much as 10” from the tip. Vg+ to ex, sharp tip, no pin holes. The 1970 pennant is vg to vg-ex with two heavy vertical creases on the photo. The N.L. Centennial pennant is vg-ex with several tack holes. These pennants all display decently.

Lot 174. Original Pen & Ink Drawing of Jim Palmer Signed by the Artist. This colorful artwork, 15 ½” x 17”, features a portrait and action image of the Hall of Fame Baltimore Orioles pitcher. It is signed “Schull ’79.” There are a couple of light stains just outside the image area that could be matted out. Apparently one-of-a-kind.

Lot 175. 2 Baltimore Orioles 1983 World Series Scroll Pennants. Full-sized orange, black and white pennants for the A.L. Champions, who defeated the Phils in the World Series. Twenty-five players are identified on the scroll, including Ripken, Murray and Palmer. One pennant is nm+, while the other is ex-m with a black stain on the orange vertical stripe.
